German Bakeries

I have become absolutely spoiled by German bakeries. I used to eat cereal every morning for breakfast, but no longer. The array of breads offered is intoxicating. From rolls to loaves to sweet goods; white breads with crunchy crusts to darker rolls crusted with pumpkin, sunflower or sesame seeds, there is something for everyone’s palate. My family’s favorite are “vollkornbrötchen.” These are multigrain rolls, soft on the inside and lightly covered with oats or seeds. You can find at least one bakery in every neighborhood, ours is just a 5 minute walk away. The quick walk first thing in the morning and the delicious aromas coming from the bakery are a lovely way to start your morning.
