Swabian Pizza

Of the many delights at the Christmas Markets, the food is one of my favorite treats! Up until last year, the tomato cream soup, waffles, crepes, bratwursts, potato pancakes with applesauce, candied nuts and glühwein (not all at the same time, of course!) topped my favorites list.

These are all still delicious, but last year Kim introduced me to my new favorite, Swabian pizza. At a little hut on a side street from the heart of the Ludwigsburg Christmas Market produces these pizzas, named for the region where we live, in their own built-in oven. Kim and my personal favorite (and our kids' too!) is the Kartoffeln und Käse (potato and cheese) variety.

Pulled fresh and piping hot from the oven, the crispy crust is topped with a thin layer of creamy white sauce, sliced potatoes and topped with melted cheese. Absolutely delicious! I’ve had to visit this hut many times already, buying more pizzas that I should, but it was all in the name of getting a good photo to share with all of you!

Come visit us in baroque Ludwigsburg to get your own slice of heaven! Guten Appétit!
