Let's not forget that burgers are eaten with a fork and knife too... which was forbidden at our 4th of July cookout in Germany.

I have made up my mind that if we are to have a boy one day, he will not have to live with the humiliation of wearing Strumpfhosen! Most children I see here are wearing at least three layers more than their parents.

I will never forget meeting my husbands friends for the first time in the hottest month of the summer. We had a cookout, but were moved inside because of rain. It had been at least between 85 and 90 that day. The apartment was so stuffy and I was sweating so I opened the windows for Frischluft only to be asked later to shut them so little "Johnny" would not get chilled while he was in his 80 lb schlafsack... hmmmmm?!?!?

Yep, I knew I was in Germany.

doch, du hast recht...errr sorry, sie haben? oder?? you know you're in germany when you scream because your american football team has won the super bowl, and the neighbors complain they have to work the next day (ok it's the middle of the night) but it's ok for half a year at least for everyone in the entire country to scream and set off fireworks everytime their team wins, regardless of the time. i won't even get into my german husband's excited eyes everytime he sees a sign for curry wurst!
